Dongguan Hongri Handbag Co., Ltd.

Custom Bag Manufacturer FAQ: MOQ, Samples, Lead Times & Shipping

Quick answers to the questions buyers ask most about working with Hongri Bags — minimum order quantities, sampling, customization, quality control, and shipping. For the complete buying process, see our Custom Bag Buyer Guide.

Orders & Getting Started

How do I start a custom bag project with Hongri?

Send us your design, reference photos, or a written description with your target quantity and market. Within 24 hours we'll come back with a feasibility assessment, material suggestions, and a preliminary quote. From there the process moves through sampling, sample approval, and bulk production — the full framework is laid out in our Custom Bag Buyer Guide.

Can I order different bag types in one purchase order?

Yes. One purchase order can include backpacks, crossbody bags, pouches, and duffels as long as they share the same material family and hardware. Everything runs in the same production cycle, ships in one container, and follows one tech pack, one logo specification, and one QC standard — which keeps your cost and logistics simple.

Do you work with startups and small brands?

Yes, startup-friendly first orders are part of how we work, not an exception we grudgingly make. We support own-brand projects from 100 pieces, offer a sample library of 1,000+ styles for ODM starting points, and our in-house sample room turns designs into prototypes in 3–7 working days. Tell us your quantity range upfront and we'll propose a production route that fits it.

Can I visit your factory or take a virtual tour?

Both are welcome. Our Dongguan facility is in the Greater Bay Area, about an hour from Shenzhen, and buyers regularly visit the cutting, sewing, QC, and packing areas in person. If travel isn't practical, we run live video factory tours and can share real-time production photos tied specifically to your order through our MES system.

MOQ & Pricing

What is your MOQ for custom bags?

We support own-brand projects from 100 pieces, with the exact MOQ depending on design complexity, materials, and logo method. Reorders can often run lower than first orders. If your target quantity is below our standard MOQ for a particular style, tell us anyway — we'll suggest material or hardware adjustments that make a smaller batch workable rather than simply declining.

Why do MOQs differ per style, color, and logo method?

Because each option carries its own minimum. A factory may accept 300 bags overall but still require 300 pieces in one fabric color, since custom-dyed fabric, custom hardware, and certain logo methods each have supplier minimums of their own. That's why we quote MOQ separately for style, color, material, logo method, and packaging — you can see exactly which decision drives the number.

How is the unit price calculated?

The unit price combines materials, labor and construction, logo method, hardware, packaging, and testing. We provide a full breakdown — sample fee, tooling/logo plate fee, unit price, packaging, and freight estimate — so you can compare quotations on the same basis. Two quotes are only comparable when they assume the same components; our Buyer Guide's pricing section explains what to check line by line.

What payment terms do you accept?

We accept T/T and irrevocable L/C at sight. For standard orders, terms are 30% deposit with the balance paid before shipment. Sample fees and courier costs are typically settled upfront and can be credited against the bulk order in many cases. For larger ongoing programs, we're open to discussing milestone arrangements during contract negotiation.

Do you offer better pricing for larger quantities?

Yes, and the curve is steepest at the low end. Moving from 100 to 300 pieces usually improves unit price more than moving from 3,000 to 6,000, because fixed costs — setup, tooling, color matching — spread across more units. When you request a quote, we can show pricing at two or three quantity tiers so you can decide where the breakpoint makes sense for your margins.

Sampling & Development

How long does sampling take?

Samples typically take 3–7 working days, with rush service available when you're on a tight launch schedule. The timeline starts once design details and available materials are confirmed, so answering spec questions early — zipper style, lining, hardware — keeps sampling fast. Bulk production then runs about 7–15 days after sample confirmation, depending on quantity and complexity.

How much does a sample cost, and is it refundable?

Sample fees depend on the bag's construction and materials and are quoted before sampling starts, so there are no surprises. In many cases the sample fee can be credited against your bulk order once production is confirmed. Courier charges are billed at cost. We'll always confirm the sample cost and what it covers in writing before the sample room begins work.

Can you make bags from reference photos or an existing sample?

Yes — both work. Reference photos start a feasibility review; clear dimensions, material preferences, and functional details move it faster. A physical sample of a bag you want improved or reproduced is even better: we can reverse-engineer the specification from it. Either way, we confirm the structure is buildable and quote a preliminary price before sampling begins.

Do I need a full tech pack to start?

No. Drawings, dimensioned photos, and a written feature list are enough for the first quote and sample. If you don't have a tech pack, our engineering team can create one from your approved sample — it then becomes the shared reference both sides check bulk production against. What matters is that specifications are measurable, not that they arrive in a particular document format.

What is a golden sample and why does it matter?

The golden sample is the pre-production sample made exactly to bulk spec — final materials, hardware, logo, and packaging. Once you approve it, it becomes the single reference both sides use to judge bulk production. It protects you: any dispute about what "correct" looks like is settled by a physical object, not by memory or email threads. We never skip this step, and neither should any factory you work with.

How many sample revisions are included?

Our sample fee typically covers the initial prototype plus reasonable revision rounds until you're satisfied with the approved spec — most projects settle within two rounds. What adds cost is changing direction, not refining: swapping materials or structure after approval means re-sampling at a new quote. We'll flag it clearly if a requested change crosses that line before any work starts.

Customization Options

What customization options do you offer?

Eight dimensions, in any combination: size and structure (compartments, pockets, closures, straps), materials, logo application, colors, patterns, hardware, packaging, and lining. You can start from a base style and modify it, or build from your own tech pack. The full menu with every option is in our customization options page, and the Buyer Guide shows how choices affect MOQ and price.

What materials can I choose from?

We work with genuine leather, PU and vegan leather, microfiber, canvas, cotton, nylon, polyester, oxford fabric, RPET recycled fabric, mesh, and denim, plus linings in matching ranges. Functional treatments — waterproofing, flame retardancy, wrinkle resistance — are available for specific use cases. If you're unsure which material fits your target price and market, send us the budget and we'll suggest two or three options with trade-offs explained.

What logo methods do you support?

Screen print, heat transfer, embossing, debossing, embroidery, woven labels, metal plates, and rubber patches. The right method depends on your material and brand positioning — embossing suits leather and PU, woven labels work on any textile, metal plates carry a premium signal on minimal designs. Send your logo file and we'll recommend the method that holds up best on your chosen fabric, including placement and size guidance.

Can you source custom hardware or custom-dyed fabric?

Yes, both. Custom zippers, pulls, buckles, logo-engraved metal plates, and custom-dyed fabric in your brand's exact color are all within scope — note that these carry their own MOQs and tooling considerations, which we'll quote transparently. For most first orders, semi-custom approaches (stock hardware with your logo plate) achieve 90% of the branding effect at a fraction of the cost and lead time.

Do you offer eco-friendly or recycled materials?

Yes. RPET recycled fabric is a standard option across our bag ranges, and we can pair it with recycled linings and packaging. Eco claims need documentation to be usable in your market, so we provide material composition details and can arrange testing for restricted substances where required — for example REACH compliance for EU programs. Tell us your target market early so compliance is built into the spec, not patched later.

Quality & Compliance

How do you control quality during bulk production?

Through seven quality gates from start to finish: incoming material inspection, cutting and preparation checks, in-line inspection on the production line, semi-finished checks, final random inspection under AQL standards, packing checks, and functional testing on sampled units per batch. Quality starts in the engineering stage — production standards are documented before a line begins, not discovered at the end. The full process is detailed in our Buyer Guide's QC section.

Which certifications do your factories hold?

Both production bases hold SEDEX 4-Pillar (SMETA) and BSCI social compliance audits, with ISO 9001 quality management certification, audited by third parties including LRQA. Unlike a certificate image on a homepage, these are verifiable: buyers can check our Sedex site references on the Sedex platform and request audit summaries during due diligence. We encourage it — verifiable credentials are exactly what you should demand from any factory.

Can we appoint a third-party inspection agency?

Yes, and we welcome it. SGS, Bureau Veritas, QIMA, or your own QC agent can attend final inspection — we provide inspection space, re-work capacity, and documentation access. We can also share in-line inspection reports before final inspection so problems surface early. A factory confident in its quality control never fears a third pair of eyes; refusal to accommodate third-party inspection should be a red flag with any supplier.

What tests do you run on finished bags?

Per batch, we test sampled units for waterproofing, load-bearing capacity, and colorfastness, against the specifications agreed in your golden sample. For specific programs we can arrange additional testing — zipper cycling, strap strength, restricted-substance screening — through third-party labs. Test scope is agreed before production starts and written into the QC standard, so "tested" always means something specific rather than a vague assurance.

Can you sign an NDA to protect my designs?

Yes. We routinely sign NDAs before receiving proprietary designs, and your designs are not shown to other clients or used in our marketing without written permission. Internally, access to your tech pack and samples is limited to the team working on your project. Our sample room operates project-by-project, and design files stay within the engineering team — ask for our standard NDA or send your own for review.

Lead Times & Shipping

What is the bulk production lead time?

Standard bulk production runs about 7–15 days after sample confirmation, depending on quantity and complexity — a 300-piece duffel order moves faster than a 10,000-piece mixed program. Peak-season scheduling and custom material sourcing can extend this, which is why we confirm a production schedule in writing when the deposit is paid. Our monthly capacity of 150,000 pieces in Dongguan plus roughly 150,000 in Cambodia gives room to plan around your launch dates.

What shipping options do you offer?

Sea freight, air freight, and international courier (DHL, FedEx, UPS). Sea is the economical choice for full or shared containers; air and courier suit urgent top-ups and samples. We can quote EXW, FOB, CIF, or DDP — with DDP, we handle the freight and import clearance so goods arrive at your warehouse with duties paid. Destination and deadline decide the best route; we'll lay out the cost and time trade-offs for each.

How is shipping cost calculated?

Shipping cost depends on the total volume and weight of packed cartons, the destination, and the freight term. Because final carton dimensions are only known once bags are packed, we provide an estimate at quotation stage based on comparable programs, then confirm the exact cost before shipment. If you need a firm landed cost for budgeting, ask for a DDP quote — it fixes the total so freight surprises land on us, not you.

Do you ship DDP to the US and EU?

Yes, DDP is available for both US and EU destinations — we arrange ocean or air freight, export documentation, and import clearance, delivering to your door with duties paid. DDP suits buyers without import infrastructure or those testing a new market. For established importers, FOB through your own forwarder is usually more economical at container volumes. We'll quote both so the decision is based on numbers, not habit.

Can I track my order during production?

Yes. Our Cambodia facility runs a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) covering scheduling, quality, and full-process traceability — clients can log in and check their order's production status in real time, stage by stage. Combined with scheduled production photo updates, you always know where your order stands without sending a "any update?" email. Transparency of progress is part of the service, not something you have to chase.

After-Sales & Assurance

What happens if I receive defective products?

Defects are our responsibility, and the process is defined before shipment: final random inspection under AQL standards sets the acceptable quality level in writing. If defective units are found at inspection, they're reworked or replaced before goods ship. If an issue surfaces after receipt, send us photos and batch details — we assess, confirm root cause, and cover rework, replacement, or credit proportionate to the confirmed defect rate on the next order.

Do you offer after-sales support?

Yes. After delivery, support covers quality claims handling, reorder coordination, and specification archiving — we keep your tech pack, golden sample records, and material specs on file so reorders reproduce the approved spec without re-development. For ongoing programs, your contact tracks sell-through feedback and flags improvement opportunities for the next production run. Long-term buyers get a stable point of contact who knows their products.

What if my goods are damaged in transit?

It depends on the freight term, which is exactly why the term matters. Under FOB, transit risk transfers to you at the port of loading, so marine insurance and carton-drop standards matter; under DDP, we carry responsibility through to delivery either way, we help you document the damage with photos and the carrier, and support the claim — and we strengthen packing specifications to prevent recurrence.

How do you handle reorders and repeat orders?

Reorders are the fastest order type we process: your tech pack, golden sample records, and approved material specs are already on file, so a repeat order typically skips re-sampling entirely and moves straight to production scheduling. Reorder MOQs can run lower than first orders, and we'll flag any material price movement or availability changes before you commit rather than after.

Two Production Bases

Why do you have factories in both China and Cambodia?

The two bases do different jobs. Dongguan handles development, complex structures, genuine leather work, and fast sampling — it sits in the Greater Bay Area's industrial cluster next to material markets and hardware suppliers. Cambodia runs large-volume standardized production at lower cost, with the same quality management and audit compliance. Buyers get supply-chain flexibility for cost, capacity, or origin diversification, with the same engineering team and QC standards behind either site.

What is your monthly production capacity?

Dongguan: 9,000㎡ of production space, 350+ experienced staff across 6 standardized lines, producing 150,000 pieces per month. Cambodia: capacity for 12 lines and 1,300 staff, currently 6 lines and 560 staff, producing roughly 150,000 pieces per month. Combined, that's over 300,000 pieces monthly — enough headroom to protect your delivery dates during peak season, which is when capacity promises matter most.
