Start with What You Have

Different projects begin with different levels of detail. Share your available references so we can identify what is needed for development.

Drawings or a Tech Pack

Share your dimensions, material requirements, construction notes and branding details for a development review.

Send My Design Files

A Physical Reference Sample

Use your sample to explain the shape, construction and details you want to retain or change.

Discuss My Reference Sample

Reference Images or a Brief

Share the intended use, approximate size and style direction. Additional specifications may be needed before sampling.

Discuss My Product Idea

Note: Reference images help communicate a direction. They do not replace the dimensions, material choices and construction details needed to make a sample.

Define the Details That Shape Your Sample

Appearance is one part of the brief. Intended use, structure, materials and target cost also influence how the bag is developed.

Discussing bag dimensions and structure

Size, Structure & Use

Discuss dimensions, capacity, compartments, opening, handles and straps around how the bag will be used.

Reviewing material and color swatches

Materials & Components

Review outer materials, lining, reinforcement, zippers and hardware requirements.

Available options depend on the product and material. Requirements should be agreed before sample work begins.

From Your Brief to Sample Confirmation

The development process is agreed around your project. Each stage helps clarify what the sample needs to demonstrate and what must be confirmed before production.

1

Review the Development Brief

Review your references, intended use, dimensions and commercial requirements. Identify missing information and discuss the development scope.

Buyer Confirmation: Project requirements, sample scope and any details still to be decided.
2

Confirm Materials & Construction

Discuss the proposed materials, components and construction details before sample making.

Buyer Confirmation: Material choices, key details and any proposed substitutions.
3

Make the Initial Sample

Develop a sample to review the agreed shape, structure and product details.

Buyer Confirmation: What the sample is intended to demonstrate and any differences from final production requirements.
4

Review & Refine

Assess the sample and discuss a clear list of changes. Additional sample work, costs and timing are agreed where needed.

Buyer Confirmation: Requested changes and the details that should remain unchanged.
5

Confirm the Production Reference

Agree on the sample, final specifications and any further pre-production sample requirements before bulk manufacturing is scheduled.

Buyer Confirmation: Approved product details and any requirements still outstanding.

An initial sample and a final production reference may serve different purposes. Materials or details that differ from the intended production version should be clearly identified.

Discuss Your Sample Project

What to Check When You Review a Sample

Review the sample against the agreed brief. Focus on the details that affect appearance, use and the requirements for production.

1. Dimensions & Proportions

Overall size, handle drop, strap length and the relationship between compartments.

2. Materials & Color

Surface appearance, feel, lining and the agreed physical material or color references.

3. Construction & Finishing

Seams, stitching, edges, reinforcement and the overall shape.

4. Function & Access

Opening, closures, pocket access and how the bag carries its intended contents.

5. Branding Details

Logo size, placement and application against the agreed requirements.

6. Outstanding Production Details

Any remaining material, hardware, packaging or specification decisions.

Screen images can help discuss appearance. Color and material feel should be assessed against agreed physical references where needed. Any formal testing requirements should be discussed separately.

Make Revision Feedback Specific

Identify the current detail, the requested change and the sample version. Include an annotated photo where helpful.

Sample version: 01
Detail: Shoulder strap length
Current: 100 cm
Requested: 110 cm
Keep unchanged: Strap width, material and hardware
Illustrative example only.

Plan the Development Time and Sample Cost

What Influences Timing?

Design complexity, material and component availability, branding requirements, sample revisions and the sample-making schedule can affect development time.

Share your required sample date and planned launch or delivery window. Sample production, shipping and review are separate parts of the overall schedule.

What Influences Cost?

Pattern work, materials, components, construction and branding can affect sample cost. Confirm what the quoted fee covers, including any revision or shipping charges.

The sample quotation and bulk production quotation serve different purposes and are confirmed according to the project.

Questions About Design & Sampling

Can I start without a complete tech pack?
Yes. Send your drawings, reference images or product brief for an initial discussion. Additional dimensions, material details or construction requirements may be needed before sampling.
Can you develop from a physical sample?
Hongri supports development from physical samples. Explain which details you want to retain and what you want to change. Shipping arrangements for the reference sample should be agreed with the team first.
How long does sampling take?
Timing depends on the product, material availability, branding requirements and revision scope. The schedule is confirmed after reviewing the development requirements.
What if the first sample needs changes?
Send a clear change list with the sample version and annotated photos where helpful. The revision scope, any additional charges and the schedule are discussed before further work.
Will the first sample use the final production materials?
Material and component arrangements are agreed for each sample. Any proposed substitutes or differences from the intended production version should be clarified before sample making and approval.
Can a sample be approved for bulk production immediately?
The sample must be reviewed together with the final specifications. Depending on the project, further changes or a pre-production sample may be needed before production is confirmed.
Can we agree on confidentiality or design ownership?
Include these requirements in your brief so they can be discussed before sharing detailed development files or starting sample work.
